Tribute to Longstanding Member - The Late Simone Mondesir
It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of one of the Saint Lucia National Trust’s longstanding members, Ms. Simone Mondesir. Ms. Mondesir has been a member of the Trust for over twenty
years and served as a former Councilor to the Trust for 7 years.
Ms. Mondesir or Ms. Simone as we affectionately called her played an integral role in engaging the people of Soufriere, especially the youth in the conservation work of the Trust. She coordinated their participation in Earth Day activities and beautification and recruitment drives in the West of the island. She also played an active role in ensuring the youth participation in the La Wòz Flower Festival.
Although not being fully well, Ms. Mondesir played an instrumental role in recruiting youngsters and disseminating information about the Trust’s Youth Environment Forum held in Soufriere in August 2019. She was extremely hospitable and helpful to the Trust team as the week-long camp was based in her community for the first time.
We extend heartfelt condolences to her children, family members, friends and Trust members and staff who mourn her passing.
We take this opportunity to encourage members to follow Ms. Mondesir’s example of service to her community, the youth, as well as to the Trust. Ms. Mondesir understood and gave her all to fulfilling our mandate to conserve Saint Lucia’s precious heritage and for this we are eternally grateful.
