Laplas Nwèl is based on the famous Christmas Markets of Germany, called Christkindlmarkt, at which the streets are lined with stalls selling holiday food and drinks and other seasonal items, accompanied by traditional entertainment and a visit from jolly old St. Nicholas himself.
While our version borrows from the German Christkindlmarkt, it is decidedly Saint Lucian in nature. Our traditional Christmas food and drink will be available, while patrons will be entertained by carollers, masquerade performers and other local artistes. Traditional Christmas games such as ‘greasy pig’, ‘greasy pole’, and bamboo bursting will ensure that everyone feels the Christmas spirit.
