Canadian High Commission Donation to Trust

The Saint Lucia National Trust was the recipient of 100,000 Canadian dollars from the Canadian High Commission at a handing over ceremony on Wednesday, November 21, 2007. These funds will be used to help restore Pigeon Island which suffered considerable damage at the hands of Hurricane Dean earlier this year.

Chairman of the Saint Lucia National Trust, Mr. Anderson Lake, in accepting the cheque, expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Canadian High Commissioner. He promised the commissioner that the money would be used wisely and effectively. The specific projects to be undertaken comprise: A general clean up of Pigeon Island, road rehabilitation and a study on coastal stabilization.

The cheque presentation was made by the Canadian High Commissioner, His Excellency Mr. David Marsall. The other members of the presentation party included: Deputy High Commissioner, Mrs. Kathryn Dunlop, Mr. Doug Holland, Counsellor, Political Affairs and Diane Cummins, Consultant Coordinator of the Canadian High Commission. Senators Hon. Allan Chastanet and Hon. Ausbert D'Auvergne were also present.
